One of the fun new features included on the 2017 Ford Fusion is Ford’s new rotary shift dial. Included with the new rotary shifter is Ford’s “Return to Park” feature. The 2017 Ford Fusion “Return to Park” feature is a great system for helping drivers avoid accidentally leaving their car in gear when parked.
“Return to Park” System
The “Return to Park” system will automatically set the dial shifter in park when the car senses the driver exiting. Three different actions can trigger the system. “Return to Park” will kick in if the car is turned off while not in park or if the driver’s side door is opened and the safety belt is unlatched while the vehicle is stationary. Automatically shifting into park will prevent rollaways if the car is left in gear after the driver exits.

In addition to automatically shifting into park, the Fusion’s dial gear shifter with automatically shift into neutral if the ignition is turned off while the car is moving.
Choosing to use a dial shifter allows the 2017 Fusion to save substantial interior space. In addition to the dial shifter, the Fusion’s new console offers 59% more storage space. Several storage bins and cubbies have been added to increase convenience. The console has also been extended by three inches.
