All-electric Ford vehicles launching in 2022

First of all, we should tell you what we mean when we say all-electric. There are three main types of electric vehicles (EVs). All-electric vehicles are synonymous with battery electric vehicles or BEVs. Let’s take a closer look at the three types. 

• Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are all electric vehicles. This means that you must charge them with electricity. You can’t fill them up with gasoline. The benefits of this include being environmentally friendly. 
• Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are partially electric vehicles. They can be charged with electricity or fueled with gasoline. The main benefit of this vehicle type is their versatility. 
• Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are also known as hybrid vehicles. These vehicles use electric power generated from braking to supplement gasoline power. They can’t be charged and need gasoline to run. 

For right now, we know of three Ford vehicles that will be battery electric vehicles for the 2022 model year. These are the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning truck, and the 2022 Ford E-Transit van. That gives you an SUV, truck, or van to choose from if you want electric power without gasoline in the mix. 

We expect that many of the current hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles will return with a 2022 model. The one new Ford vehicle with a partially electric powertrain is the 2022 Ford Maverick. This new truck comes standard as a hybrid vehicle.
