SYNC 3-Equipped 2016 Ford Model Lineup Gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

We’ve got exciting news for anyone with a 2016 model year Ford equipped with the SYNC 3 infotainment system. That’s because Ford has announced Apple CarPlay and Android Auto software support is now available on all 2016 Ford models equipped with the SYNC 3 infotainment system. If your 2016 Ford has the SYNC 3 system, all you need to do is update it to the new SYNC 3 version 2.2 by downloading it with a USB drive by following the instructions at owner.ford.com, downloading it through a Wi-Fi connection or by visiting a dealership like ours here at Brandon Ford in Tampa, FL.

Put simply, Apple CarPlay turns your 2016 model year Ford’s infotainment system into an iPhone, allowing you to get directions, make calls, play music and send or receive text messages right from your SYNC 3 system. Additionally, Siri Eyes Free allows you to do these things using only your voice. Apple CarPlay also supports select iPhone apps including Phone, Messages, Maps and Music. Android Auto is compatible with Android OS devices equipped with Android OS 5.0 or higher. Like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto works by connecting your phone to your SYNC 3 infotainment system, allowing you to utilize such apps as Google Maps and Google Now, along with listening to music, making phone calls and sending or receiving text messages.
