Surprisingly, given the difference in power ratings for the two models, both the base new Ford Edge and base new Ford Escape get 21 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on the highway. But, like we said, they do offer different power outputs. The starting engine of the 2017 Ford Edge offers 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, while the starting engine of the 2017 Ford Escape offers 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.
Interior size is also a key difference between the two models. The new Edge provides 153.1 cubic-feet of passenger and cargo space, while the new Escape provides 132.7 cubic-feet of passenger and cargo space. Another key difference, which isn’t listed in the table above, is that the 2017 Escape offers a starting price just over $5,000 less than the 2017 Edge’s starting price.
When it’s all said and done, you’re going to be happy and satisfied no matter which new Ford SUV you pick. If you want more power and interior space, go with the 2017 Ford Edge. If you don’t need all that power and space, and want to some save money at the outset, go with the 2017 Ford Escape.
